7.7.1872 à Rapperswil (SG), 13.1.1956 à Rorschach, cath., de Rapperswil. Fils de Franz Josef Adolf et d'Emilie Curti. 1) Elisa Steinauer, 2) Martha Fäh. Etudes à Darmstadt et à l'EPF de Zurich, doctorat en histoire de l'art à l'université de Fribourg en 1923. Bureau d'architecture avec Emanuel Walcher-G. à Rapperswil, puis architecte indépendant à Rorschach (1904). Représentant de l'historicisme tardif dans la foulée du père bénédictin Albert Kuhn, G. adhère ensuite au Neues Bauen (nouvelle architecture). Il est connu pour ses nombreux édifices religieux catholiques, notamment à Brugg (1905-1907), Bristen (comm. Silenen, 1909-1911), Zermatt (1912-1913), Gerliswil (comm. Emmen, 1912-1913), Romanshorn (1911-1913), Bregenz (couvent et église Saint-Gall, auj. bibliothèque du Land, 1914-1915), Saint-Gall-Neudorf (1913-1917), Dietikon (1926-1927), Zofingue (1929-1930), Gerzensee (1934-1936), Berg (TG, 1937-1939).
